So many great movies come out just after Christmas! This January I was really excited to see Frozen and Saving Mr Banks (self-confessed Disney addict) which definitely top my list of must-sees but I also had the chance to see The Secret Life of Walter Mitty which really surprised me and takes the number three spot for January movies.
FROZEN:
I had high hopes for the latest Disney Princess movie and I really wasn't disappointed! I've always loved the story of the Snow Queen but really didn't know what to expect other than seeing the cute trailer with Olaf the snowman and Sven the reindeer.
The movie had all the recipes to a perfectly packaged Disney movie...princesses, a curse, a mystery, beautiful songs and funny sidekicks but the element I loved the most about the movie was that it wasn't your typical boy meets girl love that was the focus of the film but the love between two sisters and family. Really beautiful! I was lucky enough to snag myself a novelty Frozen cup from Event Cinemas as well. I was literally walking towards the candy bar with my fiancée saying 'please let there be a frozen cup, please let there be a frozen cup'. I guess wishes and Disney movies go together hehe. Overall I highly recommend this movie to anyone that has fallen in love with fairytales and Disney like I have. Kids will love it as well and the story keeps you interested from beginning to end! I'm excited to see what merchandise comes out with this film and I've heard the dvd is to be released in March. I'm actually really looking forward to watching again!
SAVING MR BANKS:
How cute is the movie poster for this! This movie really warmed my heart! Everything about it was perfection and I found myself laughing, crying and smiling throughout the film. I love that it is a true story and one that hasn't really been told before and Tom Hanks as Walt Disney was amazing! I have always been so interested in Walt and I felt that this movie gave us a peek into who he was and just how much he adored his movies and the magic they brought to households all over the world. Mary Poppins is one of my favourite childhood movies and I don't think I will ever watch it in the same way after this movie- I will love it even more! Emma Thompson played the role of P L Travers perfectly, another actress could have made her role quite unlikable and while she was a very difficult woman Emma made her rudeness and perfectness almost endearing, especially when you knew that it was just because she loved her characters so much. Not really a children's movie but really a movie for adults of any age! Ben, my fiancée, and I took our mothers to a premiere screening of this and we all came out saying it was one of the best films we had seen in a long time. The best moment for me was when they sang Let's Go Fly a Kite. Beautiful! Yet another one I want to watch again and it has inspired me to buy a book online about P.L Travers' life.
SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY:
Well this one was so much more than I expected! I was thinking it would be just another funny sort of Ben Stiller movie but it turned out to be such an inspirational, interesting and beautiful movie. Yes it had some very funny parts...one in particular a recreation of Benjamin Button which had my own Ben (who ages completely normally) and I laughing hysterically in our seats, but it was such a great tale of a man who takes a chance in life and ultimately becomes a person he had only ever dreamed of being. Beautiful locations and a story that keeps you gripped until the end. Made me want to get out there and explore the world! Really impressed that Ben Stiller directed this as well, and he really showed another side of himself as an actor in this movie. Go see it!
